Even if nobody asked……
1. There are two sets of red-lights a couple hundred yards apart on a road I travel frequently. They sit in front of Pawtucket Memorial Hospital, a wise place to put them, no doubt. Except that Pawtucket Memorial closed in 2018! Proving again that once government adds, establishes, or adopts something it is NOT going away.
2. Am I the only one that doesn’t get the notion of a celebrity being referred to as a “recluse”? Isn’t that at least halfway to an oxymoron?
3. A recent report showed which airlines are the worst for losing luggage. Well doesn’t that, in fact, make them the BEST at losing luggage? But I digress. How are we not naming the “best” AIRPORTS for losing luggage? Seems to me they are at least co-conspirators in the folly of lost luggage. Also, is it lost as in never found, or lost as in misplaced and soon to be returned? OK, I’m done now.
4. Speaking of airlines, Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines are both basically Greyhound buses with wings to me. (I never said I wasn’t a travel snob!)
5. Actors referring to their work as “film” when the rest of us just call it “movies” is the verbal equivalent of musicians referring to a release of their songs as a “record” when the rest of us call it an “album”. Out here in the real world, a business does everything it can to have the customer aligned with them on what they call the product. Not so inside the castle of fame, I suppose.
6. The next time you silently (or otherwise) label someone as being LAZY, make sure it’s not a lack of faith or confidence. I have seen way too many times where someone didn’t apply themselves only to eventually discover that they lacked the faith or confidence that additional effort was going to improve their outcome. And they were generally right.
7. “Journalism is printing what someone else does NOT want printed. Everything else is PUBLIC RELATIONS.”
8. To stay mentally alert and in the moment, stop the two R’s: Rehearsing and Replaying. Rehearsing (practicing) what you should say or how a conversation should go stales your mind and dulls your listening, never mind what it does to your innovation and creativity. Replaying it afterwards is reckless treatment of your mental condition. You can’t go back in time and redo it, so don’t put yourself through it!
9. Heard someone say recently that owning a HOME in today’s younger generation is as lofty a goal as owning a BUSINESS was to older generations. Ouch!
10. My pastor did an excellent sermon on marriage last weekend (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0tUcnQ6uEo). A big part of it was on sex. Trish was working the next service, leaving me to drive home with my 22 and 18-year-old daughters. I got to the car a few minutes after they did. I stepped in and my youngest blurts out: “Hey dad, how ‘bout those Celtics!” I was quite grateful for that.
