Even if nobody asked…..

1. My daughter visited U Tampa a few months back and as we walked past the baseball field, it brought back a fond memory. In her brother’s senior year of high school, he played a game in that stadium. I flew down to see it. Imagine my surprise when I discover he wasn’t in the lineup. Middle of the order hitter benched? So, I sit behind the backstop and watch as his team goes into its final at bat being no-hit and down 1-0. With two outs, the #3 hitter walks, and my son is summoned to pinch hit for the cleanup hitter (odd enough as that is). Trouble is, he can’t get the donut off his bat. The umpire starts yelling at him to get another bat, the catcher is laughing at him and the pitcher stares-in pretty annoyed that his no hitter is being held up by this bench scrub who can’t even remove a donut! My son grabs the on-deck hitters’ bat and finally comes to the plate. One pitch later the no hitter is gone, and we lead 2-1. Anyway, said daughter decided on U Pitt last week.

2. “OPPORTUNITY is the byproduct of RESPONSIBITY and PRODUCTIVITY”, not LUCK and HARD WORK. Close but different.

3. The first eleven obituary’s I saw one day this week were all female. So, either women are dropping like flies or men just aren’t worth the expense of a death notice. I’ll leave the reader to decide.

4. Valet brought up my car at a pool and beach club in Florida the other day and I noticed the car sitting next to mine was the same car I drive at home. So, I tell him: “Hey, I drive THAT car at home.” I just thought it was ironic. Trouble is, as I wheeled around to leave, I see that the car I pointed out was NOT my car. It was, in fact, a Bentley! My son starts howling at me in laughter. I actually got out of my car to go back and find the valet guy to tell him I was mistaken but he was gone. I. AM. A. CLOWN.

5. My wife put together a black-tie Gala for 200 people in seven weeks. Start to finish. In the midst of it, she also worked full time in the winddown of MY former career (she was the CFO)! Then one day she rented a U-Haul and drove to Maine with a teacher from our daughters’ school to bring back all the staging for the Spring musical at the high school later this month. This is why I largely feel lazy and unproductive most days.

6. “Others see in us what we see in ourselves. We receive the kind of treatment we think we deserve.” Uh oh!

7. I don’t believe in Purgatory but if I did, I’m pretty sure I’d find it full of people who placed large orders at the Dunkin drive-thru window.

8. Because I geek-out on stuff like this: The Boston Red Sox threw six shutouts in the first month of the season but led the league in errors. That’s not supposed to happen.

9. Heard there was a big soccer game at Gillette Stadium last week. Were there any points scored? Did the goalie see a shot? Did we get past nil nil? Or was it just some long pinball match until everyone in the stands got really tired and drove home? (Asking for a friend.)

10. Young guy hears my “accent” in a restaurant in Florida Thursday night and asks if I’m from Boston. I confirm. He follows-up asking if I’m a Tom Brady fan. I tell him I’ll be at Brady’s HOF ceremony in June, that I went to five Patriots SB party’s “with Tom” (flexing!💪🏻) and that I named my last child Brady – “because I couldn’t name her Tom”. He shakes his head wildly (I’m his new best friend) and tells me that when the Pats were down 28-3 he told everyone that if Brady came back from that he’d have TB12 tattooed on his thigh. I called his bluff. He rolls up his pants. I take the picture. Props to 30-year-old Parker from Sarasota, Florida. You win.

Happy Saturday! Feel free to comment and share. Thanks!
