Even if nobody asked….
1. Having to walk back to where your dog pooped to pick it up because you didn’t bring a bag with you the first time is the new ‘walk of shame’ for adults. The “poop walk” instead of the “perp walk”. I can’t be alone in experiencing this.
2. "Retirement” has taught me that all accomplishments from here on out are OBITUARY builders, not RESUME builders. Maybe it should have ALWAYS been that way?
3. Been a Best Man three times in my life. Been the Executor of an estate three times as well. Baptized three people and officiated three weddings. Holy three’s, Batman! Guess you could say I’m your man for all sorts of ‘comings and goings’ in life.
4. The night Nikola Jokić was presented with his 3rd NBA MVP award he had another triple double and this one included an incomprehensible 13 assists with ZERO turnovers. Many of them highlight reel worthy. In 2014, the Boston Celtics took the immortal James Young and Marcus Smart ahead of The Joker.
5. I know that in heaven I will get a new body and that I’ll be singing a lot. So I’m guessing I’ll be getting a new voice too. Lord, my simple prayer is that you give me the same voice you gave Chris Connell, Elvis Costello or Gordan Lightfoot. Or Josh Pereira if he’s finished with his by then! In your name I pray. Amen.
6. “Men mature later than boys.” – Steve Rosa (my neighbor) describing himself.
7. In his mind, Jayson Tatum plays for the NBA, not for the Boston Celtics. He’s a global citizen of the game, not a man possessed to bring banner #18 to the rafters of the Garden. And that’s what’s lacking.
8. FINALLY got that Scotty Scheffler thug off the streets and made our neighborhoods safe again! In related news, PGA commissioner Jay Monahan says thanks for the memories Louisville, it was nice knowing you.
9. Speaking on today’s culture, the quote of the week comes from Jerry Seinfeld in his Duke University commencement address: “We are embarrassed about things we should be proud of and proud of things we should be embarrassed about.”
10. Medical questionnaire via the phone the other day. The questions started to get stupid, and I started to lose my grace. “What are your preferred pronouns”? – “None. I prefer none. Just call me Dean. Mr. Dean if that helps”. “What sexual orientation are you?” – I’m a guy, a man.” “No, you already answered that question. I know you identify as a male but what is your sexual PREFERENCE?” – “Oh that, sure. Do you have a box there where it says, ‘Loves to have sex with women’ (but just his wife)? Put a check in that box for me, big guy.” No more questions were asked.
