Even if nobody asked (sports version):
1. Imagine working at a place for 42 years, rising to literally Hall of Fame status in your industry and then suddenly just giving your two-week notice and retiring? Me neither. Well, that’s what Red Sox radio man, Joe Castiglione, just did. I smell a John Henry rat.
2. As it stands right now, the New England Patriots will face teams that have the better QB in roughly 15 or their 17 games. That’s like an MLB team facing a better starting pitcher and better bullpen in 142 games and hoping not to be the worst team in baseball. Speaking of which…..
3. The worst teams in baseball are usually at -200 run differential. But the worst team THIS season, the Chicago White Sox, are pushing a -350! They’re 50% worse than the next worst team, a full 51+ games out of first place BUT also 44 games behind the next most terrible team in their division! Crazy.
4. Offensive linemen in the NFL are now like starting pitching rotations in baseball. You have five. Most are below average. All fight injuries. And the collective performance of the group will determine the fate of your entire season.
5. The discussion of whether Tua should retire over concussions should start with why he seems to suffer so many of them compared to other players facing similar type collisions. I blame his left-handedness.
6. Don’t look now, but the Sox erred perfectly in not resigning SS Xander Bogaerts to a contract that will pay him until around the time he becomes a grandfather. 675 OPS! Moved to 2nd base. Yikes.
7. If Drake Maye becomes worthy of his top-3 draft pick status what do you really have in New England when the conference has Mahomes, Stroud, Allen, Burrow, Herbert and Jackson? Better build that defense to an all-time great level, Mr Wolfe.
8. Drew Bledsoe reports that in the two times he lost his starting job to a young and upcoming QB he learned why one would be successful and why one wouldn’t. Here’s what Drew said last week: “When Tommy (Brady) became the starter he was still asking all the questions, where all of the sudden Romo became the guy that had all the answers.” This is why I don’t value Romo as a broadcaster.
9. Bobby Witt Jr, the freak talent of the Kansas City Royals is the son of a prominent pitcher of the same name who was raised in Canton, Ma. Love to one day see Jr. at SS for the Red Sox. Speaking of Missouri………
10. Two classmates ride an 8th grade school bus together in St Louis just a decade ahead of being among the greatest players in all of sports. One Boston fans love, the other they fear.
