Even if nobody asked (sports edition)

1. Standing on the sideline during New England Patriots pregame at Gillette last week I saw team captain David Andrews take his helmet off three times to vomit. 15 feet from me. No one came over to assist. No one batted an eye. Andrews eventually returned to his linemates, took his position, and snapped the ball. Minutes later he was at the 50 for the coin toss and then went on to play in every offensive snap. Proving once again that we have no idea what kind of battle someone is going through.

2. For the most part, stolen bases are a beauty queen stat. But when the guy who hits 50+ homers is also the guy who steals 50+ bases you wear that sash with honor. When the same guy can strike out 200 hitters a year you can be sure that kids today will be telling their grandchildren they saw Shohei Ohtani play.

3. The new NFL kickoff format is a TV series about to get cancelled after one season.

4. The Red Sox have collapsed after the all-star break three seasons in a row. Many will say the team gave up or the manager was asleep, or they didn’t buy well enough at the trade deadline but to me it’s none of that. It’s all about how much more difficult the schedule gets in August and September for AL East teams. They get exposed with that.

5. LeBron James deserves top-15 all-time NBA player status for two attributes: durability and longevity. In the big three skills of basketball – shooting, passing, and rebounding – he has not been among the best in his own generation for even a single season. Don’t suggest top-5 all-time, please don’t………………OK, let the rock fight begin!

6. Speaking of stolen bases, many fast players who COULD attempt more steals don’t do it because getting caught lowers their WAR and as we know, WAR is basically baseball translation for MVP right now.

7. Why does the WNBA use the ABA ball? Don’t you need an afro to shoot that thing?

8. I wasn’t a big fan of PLAYERS using the entrance into the area as a red-carpet fashion catwalk but now TV COMMENTATORS get the treatment too? This has to be an End Times revelation somewhere in the Bible.

9. Baseball wisdom that applies to life: “A home run is just a double you got under.” Hit doubles every day and occasionally you’ll get under one.

10. The Red So leadoff hitter and their #9 hitter both have 75 RBI’s. Unfortunately, most of the guys in-between have done very little to help produce runs.

That's it till Saturday, thanks for reading!
