Even If Nobody Asked

Even if nobody asked……

1. Driving to the Red Sox game in Tampa the other night when my son blurts out this gem: “Dad, I’m 36 years old and I’m still geeked up to catch a foul ball. Is there something wrong with me?” I reply, “Of course there is son, but that’s just not the best example.”

2. Some people in your life say they want a relationship WITH you when what they really want is a relationship AT you. Be careful, narcissists are tricky.

3. Asking for a friend: What issue are you shielding yourself from so that you’re far enough away from it that you won’t get motivated enough to actually change it?

4. Once again, the proper reply to “thank you” is “you’re welcome”, NOT “all good”, “no problem” or as my two-year-old grandson likes to say, “I know.”.

5. Bosses: put your energy into the high-performance employees NOT the low performance employees.

6. If you don’t get called back for a job you interviewed for (that you really wanted), call back and say (nicely) to the interviewer “I thought the interview went well, where was I was I off about that, can you help me?” Some non-callbacks are a test, others are simply poor process. Never assume it was YOU.

7. In my spirit, God occasionally says, “I let them be wrong, why can’t you”? Ouch.

8. Good reminder: “The word ‘system’ stands for Save-Yourself-Time-Energy and Money”.

9. The reason to win the game is to renounce the game, to actually become free of it, to make it matter less. Same with money.

10. “Men, it is impossible for you to maintain a pure mind if you are a television-watching, internet-surfing, video-game-playing “couch potato.” In one week, you will watch more murders, adulteries, and perversions than our grandfathers read about in their entire lives.” – R. Kent Hughes, Disciplines of a Godly Man.
