Even If Nobody Asked

Even if nobody asked……

1. I had kidney surgery yesterday to remove a pesky stone and install a stent. OK, I can do this. No big deal.

Then I read the discharge instructions:

Drink plenty of water.

Expect pain and blood when you urinate.

So my recovery plan is apparently to keep doing the thing that causes the other thing. YIKES!

2. My 24-year-old daughter started her new job this week in Dallas as an Innovation Engineer for Southwest Airlines.

After orientation, they had her walk a red carpet.

Her entire team was waiting at the end with signs, balloons, hugs, cheers, and smiles. She was overwhelmed.

Truthfully, so was I.

In 35 years of leading people, I never thought of doing that. What a beautiful way to tell someone: "We're glad you're here."

And isn’t that the very thing a Day One employee hopes to feel?

3. One of the most underrated skills you can learn is the ability to ignore your mood and stick with the plan.

Feelings make wonderful passengers and terrible drivers.

4. Don't tell me what you KNOW. Tell me what you DO.

Knowledge is everywhere.

Execution is rare.

5. Let your peace and joy tell people you're a Christian before you do it with Bible verses.

6. No one becomes resilient without suffering. Resilience is an earned behavior. Usually an expensive one.

As I gulp down another liter of water.

7. Pickleball is just big Ping Pong and small tennis. But it is way sexier than cornhole.

8. I had my new ride ceramic coated at It's a Wrap in Warwick.

They did such an incredible job that I actually noticed my key fob – it was sparkling too!

9. There has been enormous sadness over the stabbing death of teenager Austin Metcalf in Frisco, Texas. Yet I haven't heard a single national debate about anyone's right to own a knife.

10. All of productive life comes down to three things:

Love.

Wisdom.

Courage.

Everything else is mostly commentary.

Thanks for reading, commenting and sharing. I played with the spacing this week – hope it made things more readable. You ROCK
