Even if nobody asked……..

1. Former players doing color commentary in the NFL spend way too much time studying the rosters of the teams they are about to call and then let all that silly data consume their analysis. If I were in charge I’d have them show up game-day and just have them tell us what they see on the field. I’d be overjoyed if they just referred to the players by their jersey numbers. That would be so awesome.

2. Bob Costas makes me wish I was watching the game in Mandarin. Or not at all. What a disaster. Don’t agree? I rest my case: https://x.com/JomboyMedia/status/1844194411510628609

3. “One of Lebron James most elite skills is maintaining plausible deniability from things that happened to his team and teammates.” – John Karalis, Boston Sports Journal

4. Rule change I’d love to see: if you fall down in the NBA a foul can’t be called unless it is ruled a flagrant foul. In other words, you need to stay on your feet for a foul to stick as called. The flopping drama has gone way too far.

5. Four teams are 1-5 in the NFL right now, including the team located in Foxboro, MA. Since 1966, FOUR teams with that record have made the playoffs. One every dozen years or so.

6. The Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff running off 33 consecutive scoreless innings over the last week brought back a memory. In 1988, a starting pitcher went 59 straight innings (not a typo) without allowing a run. He won the Cy Young, NLCS MVP, World Series MVP and pitched a complete game shutout to win it all (after earning a save in game 4). He also won a Gold Glove that year. And yes, he was a Dodger. Hats off to the summer and fall of Orel Hershiser.

7. I see the NFL is back to its racist roots. 100% of the leagues placekickers are white and all but one of its 32 punters are white. Don’t even get me started on long-snappers!

8. Cooper Flagg, the presumptive #1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft graduated from Montverde Academy in Florida, as did former #1 NBA picks Cade Cunnigham and Ben Simmons. But they all pale in comparison to Montvale’s best BASEBALL graduate. None other than New York Mets superstar SS Francisco Lindor in 2015.

9. “If I had one superpower as a pitcher it would be to know if the batter was ready to swing at the first pitch or not.” – John Smoltz. Gold.

10. My wife told me she loved sports when we met. (Don’t worry, I told her I loved long walks on rainy nights.) Anyway, a few weeks ago she sees a woman watching the Georgia/Bama game wearing a t-shirt with a three-word stack on the front: GOD USA SEC. She looks at the shirt and says: “I’m not sure what the Securities Exchange Commission has to do with all that, but the shirt looks really good on you.” And no, I didn’t just make that up.
