Even if nobody asked…..
1. How to be successful in your career: Go to work each day like someone is trying to take your job.
2. I have a great idea: Make it mandatory for all obituaries to contain the text from the deceased’s high school yearbook bio. Come on now!
3. What we do on our bad days matters more than what we do on our good days.
4. “If the next thing you’re going to say makes you feel better, then it’s probably the wrong thing to say.” Whoa. (Amor Towles)
5. Driving my Audi SUV in stabilization mode has replaced resistance training in my workout routine. Three sets of one mile at 80 MPH with two hands, three sets of half a mile at 50 MPH one-handed. Jacked!
6. Sometimes God’s not saying NO. He’s saying SLOW. Or He’s saying ROW. – Tim Hatch
7. Cool moment this week: WNBA coaches held press conferences to confess they didn’t know what the W stood for in their league.
8. It took the Boston Red Sox 46 losses to win their first 32 games this season. It took FIVE losses to win their next 32.
That’s like being three feet tall at age 46 and finding yourself six feet tall when you turn 51.
9. Saw a report this week that Pit Bulls make up 7% of the dog population but account for 66% of people killed by dogs. Does this say more about the breed or those who own them? 🤷
10. I went to buy The Last Child by John Hart this week. Amazon informed me I already owned it. Apparently I bought it in July of 2018. So I opened it on Kindle, expecting to find myself on page one.
Instead, I found myself on the last page.
Well, that seems like fairly convincing evidence that I read it, except I log every book I read on Goodreads. It’s not there. I also love to highlight passages in books. I found none in this one. Not a single one – from a well written book.
And I don’t remember any of it.
Not the characters. Not the story. Nothing. So I started reading, figuring eventually something would click and I’d yell, “Oh yeah! THIS book.”
I’m now 50 pages in today.
Still no lights on at the Inn.
But I’m rooting for it now. Somewhere around page 123 I want one character to walk into a room and suddenly have eight years of memories come flooding back.
Not because I particularly need to remember The Last Child. I just want the satisfaction of knowing that somewhere inside this post-chemo brain of mine, the book was there the whole time.
At this point, remembering the ending before I get there has become an Olympic event.
And I'm going for Gold! Please pray for me. 😎
