Even if nobody asked……

1. Obituaries are box scores for the grandparent generation.

2. “You sound like a broken record” is music to my ears (pun acknowledged) when I hear it from my kids or my staff. That’s what a leader needs to be, the CRO, the Chief REMINDING Officer. It’s your job to MESSAGE if you want to lead. Disclaimer: your wife will grow tired of this, REALLY tired of it.

3. “Cursing a Christian (in this country) is like cursing the roof that protects your house.” – Vincent Everett Ellison

4. Long form conversational podcasts do the job that in-depth magazines articles once did. Joe Rogan is basically a Vanity Fair or The New Yorker writer nowadays. And that’s a HUGE improvement.

5. A well-placed encouraging word detoxifies someone from the psychological death that so many are suffering. Let’s inoculate some people today!

6. How can I remember what happened to me in 1983 and forget why I just walked into a room or what I was looking for in the cupboard? Well, MEMORY is like a glass of milk. Once you reach your 60’s the glass is near the brim. Add more milk and some milk spills out. The question is, which milk spilled out, the milk from the bottom of the glass or the milk from the top of the glass? Exactly!

7. I am 99% convinced ONE of the following two things is a LIE: 1) the world is round. 2) we put a man on the moon. Do with that what you will.

8. I have read 24 books so far in 2024. These have been the top three: The Lincoln Highway, Ordinary Grace, The Lost Man.

9. ENVY eliminates ADMIRATION. Eliminate enough people to admire and you can’t define what it is you admire, what you VALUE. A culture, society that doesn’t have values is one that is in real trouble.

10. God’s funny sense of humor, part infinity: I injured my knee last week. Rehab, brace, unable to move much, you know the drill. Could be surgery ahead. Blah, blah, blah. I see I’m on the schedule at church as the MC for all three services. Uh oh. I think of backing out but show up and figure I can push through it. I review the sermon notes from our excellent visiting pastor from New York. His title? “Where’s Your Limp?” Yeah, I was the most prepared man in the church for THAT message!
