Even if nobody asked…..

1. I struggle with the morals clause in baseballs HOF induction process. Not because I support immoral people but because you simply can’t get a full accounting of who is moral enough and who isn’t. You only get the guys who didn’t cover their tracks well or who had friends in high places invested in their protection. Slippery slope, IMO. RIP Pete Rose. I can now forgive you for Ray Fosse.

2. Bill Belichick had to go. That no other team was willing to hire him confirms that he is closer to ‘The Artist formally known as Bill Belichick” than the “Hall of Fame coach, Bill Belichick”. That said, the new staff and GM did not have to come. Johnathan Kraft’s murky pawprints look to be all over this. 1981, we turn our lonely eyes to you. Like THAT bad.

3. Baseball teams need a leader. A guy who other teams hold in such high regard that they understand showing disrespect to him or his team shows disrespect for the game itself. The Red Sox don’t have that guy and it’s costing them dearly.

4. So the Bruins traded their #1 REGULAR SEASON goalie from last season to run with their #1 PLAYOFF goalie from last season. Trouble is, they picked a guy who is now holding out for more money. Maybe putting Plan B ahead of Plan A is a dyslexia you want to avoid, Mr. Sweeney.

5. The Boston Celtics should put Kristof Porzingis in a box marked “Don’t open until June”.

6. The 2nd biggest roster error the New England Patriots made this off-season (hello, Left tackle!) was to not find a VETERAN backup for Jacoby Brissett. Leaving your 21-year-old rookie as the stunt double is a really bad idea for this franchise.

7. The Lions Jarred Goff set an NFL record Monday night by completing ALL 18 of his passes. The opposing QB, the Seahawks Geno Smith, had exactly 18 INCOMPLETIONS. I love numerology like that, especially when I fail to mention that poor Mr. Smith had to throw it 56 times to reach his 18 incompletions.

8. Dawg fans, your vaunted QB, Carson Beck, played the first half of the Bama showdown Saturday night with a Mr. Clean pocket on nearly every throw YET managed to look more like Jeff Beck (or Glenn Beck) than a surefire top-5 pick in next year’s NFL draft. I can tell you that epic Georgia fan April Williams came close to exercising her potty mouth more than a few times watching the game.

9. Maybe the Billy O’Brien of Chestnut Hill, MA would have been a pretty good fit as Billy O’Brien of Foxboro, MA. Although such a move might have split the considerable number of atoms in my friend Jeff Sowa brain. If so, maybe the Eagles could have signed Belichick?

10. I finished in 3rd in my eight team AL-only roto baseball league (that means I know the backup utility players and the 7th inning relievers for 16 teams). I won $100. And why should the reader care? Well, because my wife, kids and neighbors don’t. My pastor doesn’t either. My former employees sure don’t. And my dog Kevin only wants to know if there’s a treat in it for him. That leaves YOU, so please be impressed. I spent 180 days on this! Thank you.

Let 'er rip!
