Even if nobody asked….

1. It’s not YOUR job. You didn’t create it. The founder/owner did. It’s the job you have been GIVEN and that you ACCEPTED. The only part that makes it “yours” is KEEPING it.

2. My aim is to spend at least as many hours in the gym each week as my wife spends in Savers or Goodwill.

3. I didn’t ask my sales staff what their GOAL was for the month or quarter. I asked them what I can EXPECT from them. Much stickier measurable. In fact, I could forecast actual sales results using 92% of their expectations. I could never do that when I asked for their GOAL.

4. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Of course it is, love is the only one of the three that remains when you get to heaven. – Bruce Boria

5. IDEAS are so much wider than MEMORIES and much faster to take root.

6. I have yet to use any form of ChatGPT or any of its co-conspirators.

7. Don’t ask people to dive into a topic when they are hungry, so be careful setting meetings from 11AM to noon or 4 PM to 5 PM.

8. “‘The mark of the IMMATURE man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the MATURE man is that he wants to live humbly for one.’” – JD Salinger

9. I believe in life after DEATH, and I believe in life after CONCEPTION. I’m good like that.

10. 1993, I’m coaching a 3rd grade East Providence boys basketball team playing in a 4th grade league. We are playing in Bristol and losing 19-0. Trouble is, the bulbs for zero on the Visitors scoreboard are broken so it shows 19-blank, like we’re not even there. I have this kid who’s there for the uniform and the post-game pizza. I put him in the game and let him run around looking at his reflection in the windows and searching for his parents in the stands. He works himself into a sweat faster than he’d get in a sauna and asks to check out after three inglorious minutes. He boldly pushes all the kids down the bench to sit next to me, grabs his water, exhales like he just finished Heartbreak Hill and taps me on the shoulder, “Hey coach, we Home or Away on the scoreboard today? Totally clueless. I could do nothing but wrap an arm around him and tell him “It doesn’t matter, you played really hard out there.” I think about that kid, who’s now 36 years old, quite often, hoping he lives life never worrying about the scoreboard or whether he’s home or away.
