Even if nobody asked…..

1. 2004, Ocean Club, The Bahamas. Robert De Niro is standing next to a town car as his luggage is loaded. His young child is acting out; crying, and carrying on about daddy leaving. The mother seems lost in the moment. De Niro then starts leering at me, he scowls and leans forward. I can’t figure out why. What did I do? Ah, then I notice. I’m holding a camera. He’s afraid I’m going to capture this Hallmark moment in a picture. And his way to deter it is to get into character, go all Cape Fear, Taxi Driver on me. I nod, smile, and lay the camera at my feet. He nods back in subtle acknowledgement. As he drove away, I remember feeling sad for him. I still do.

2. Are people on airplanes nuttier these days or is it just that everyone now has a video camera to capture it all? I’m taking the former on that one, kids.

3. Quote of the week: “There’s a lot of slow in my go.”

4. If there is one question I miss some days it’s “paper or plastic?”.

5. Words that are ‘read and not said’: subterfuge. And if I do ever say that word you can be sure I’ll pronounce it ‘sub-ta-fuj-a’ and use a French accent just not make sure it goes back in books, where it belongs.

6. “I wouldn’t eat a thing if we had nothing in our house” 🤔, says my wife on a drive home from grocery shopping. Hmmm. Profound. I smirk and reply: “Well hon, if an ice cube gets warm, you’d have water.” She called ME weird. I suppose……

7. Speaking of which, I’ve recently turned the response, “Have a wonderful day” into “Have yourself a day of wonder.” Mixed results.

8. All I want is a toilet at HOME that flushes like a toilet at a HOTEL. Is that too much to ask?

9. One year ago TODAY I met a Pit Bull in a cemetery. Man, has a lot changed since THAT encounter.

10. My mind rarely hangs around long enough to hear the words that follow the statement “Thank God I….” or “Good thing I ….” I figure it’s best to let people worship themselves alone. I’m good like that.
